Case Study #1: Customer’s Expansion to Asia
Redefining GlobalWare Value Add Services to Meet Client's Evolving Global Supply Chain Model
Since 2000, GlobalWare has been the primary CM to the PDA accessories and specialty PDA products market. GlobalWare works with US companies and their Asia ODMs.
Problem
Each of the Company's ODMs is responsible for the converting the bulk hardware into a retail kit. However, most of the ODMs had little or no experience managing the print, packaging, media and assembly associated with a retail packout operation. The Company needed to keep a consistent look and feel of the entire product line across the multiple ODM partners, and ensure the Company's demanding print and packaging quality standards are met. The Company had to minimize delays resulting from the vast distance between the ODM in Asia and the Company's location in the US and facilitates timely and accurate communication of content, ECOs, schedules between themselves, the ODM and their supply chain.
Solution
GlobalWare's experience with the Company's product line, familiarity with Asian manufacturing standards and processes, and an integrated worldwide footprint allowed GlobalWare to re-position the company by providing new areas of value add to the Company's manufacturing and fulfillment efforts.
GlobalWare had managed an existing Company approved Chinese based supply chain in support of the Company's ODM, and had recently established a GlobalWare owned operation in Dongguan, China. Adding China based personnel to GlobalWare's existing US client support team significantly reduced the requirement for the Company's personnel in the Asian region. GWS' extended support team provided a seamless project management solution with in-depth knowledge of local business practices and manufacturing standards, logistics, and Chinese government regulations. GlobalWare Chinese team could work directly with each ODM in real time to address technical specifications, quality and scheduling issues to meet The Company's production requirements.
All of GlobalWare facilities have standardized on one universal set of production processes controlled by an integrated ERP infrastructure.
Result
Most of the Company's existing accessory products are now in full production in China and Globalware has been able to provide valuable services and developed close relationships with the Company's ODMs in China in support of their manufacturing efforts. Since the transition, the Company successfully released two new lines of PDA and related accessory products critical to their future.
